Ben Marcus is the author of four books of fiction: The Age of Wire and StringNotable American WomenThe Flame Alphabet, and Leaving the Sea. His new book, Notes from the Fog, will be published by Knopf in August, 2018. His stories, essays, and reviews have appeared in Harper’s, The New Yorker, Granta, The Paris Review, Conjunctions, Bomb, the Virginia Quarterly Review, and elsewhere. He is the editor of The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories and New American Stories, He is a recipient of the Berlin Prize and a Guggenheim fellowship. Among his other honors are a Whiting Writers Award, a Creative Capital Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in fiction, a literature award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and three Pushcart Prizes. Since 2000 he has taught on the faculty at Columbia University’s School of the Arts.
